Story Behind The Song: Casey Donahew’s ‘Kiss Me’ – Plus Win A Copy Of Latest Album ‘The Wild Ride’

Casey Donahew tells Lyric all about his song ‘Kiss Me’ in this segment of Story Behind The Song.

Who did you write ‘Kiss Me’ with?

I wrote the song with our guitar player John Newsome on the bus outside of New York.

Tell us the story behind the song. How did it come about?

We were just talking about those awkward first kiss situations, and especially the scenario when you are friends with a girl first.

What came first: the lyrics, the melody or the chord progression?

The lyrics – The ‘Waiting on you to kiss me” line came first.

Were there any artists/writers in particular who influenced the style/genre of ‘Kiss Me’?

Not specifically, we wanted to create something unique to our sound.

What’s your favourite ‘lyric’ from the song?

“There’s a window open to steal my heart”

Who would your dream co-write be with?

I️t would have been Merle Haggard.

But today maybe Eric church.
