This past week has seen us country fans being treated to some great new music from the likes of Walker McGuire, Morgan Evans, and more. And here we bring you reviews of the top 5 single releases this week.
1: Lost – Walker McGuire
Country music duo Walker McGuire are back with their fantastic new single ‘Lost’. The new release is a real standout from the band and their vocal harmonies make for easy listening. ‘Lost’ is a huge country track with massive production, catchy lyrics, and toe-tapping beat. Radio stations are going to love playing the song and it has all the ingredients needed to become a huge crossover hit.
2: Kiss Somebody (Acoustic) – Morgan Evans
Fast rising country music star Morgan Evans has released the stripped back acoustic version of his massive breakout single ‘Kiss Somebody’ and the new simple version is really something special. Evans possesses a really beautiful vocal tone and this acoustic version really highlights his voice and also the gorgeous lyrics. It’s always nice to have a variety of versions of a song and with this release Morgan Evans has proved he is the real deal.
3: This Special Time Of Year – The Rising
Brit country music band The Rising have returned with the release of an original Christmas single titled ‘This Time Of Year’. It’s a really catchy, feel-good track that will leave you smiling from ear to ear and leave you feeling all Christmassy and excited for the big day to arrive. Out of all the new original country festive tracks released this year this is a real standout and apart from Shania Twain’s collaboration with Nick Jonas on ‘Say All You Want For Christmas’ it’s probably the best.
4: All I Want For Christmas Is You – Catherine McGrath
Catherine McGrath is getting into the festive spirit with this stunning acoustic rendition of the worldwide Mariah Carey smash-hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. Many singers and bands from all different genres have released their own version of this Christmas classic over the years but few have managed to make it quite their own as much as McGrath has. This simple version showcases Catherine’s sublime vocal talents and the simple arrangement make it a real stand out of the holiday singles out at the moment.
5: New Year’s Day – Taylor Swift
After becoming a household name in pop music over the past several years, Taylor Swift has finally returned to her country music roots with the release of new single ‘New Years Day’. It’s the only song off her new LP ‘Reputation’ that has been sent to Country Radio and it’s doing very well showing that there is still a gap for her in the country music genre. For me personally it’s more of a stripped back pop ballad rather than a straight laced country track but it’s still good to see she is ready to reengage with the country fans that made her a superstar. It’s no where near as good as old tracks such as ‘Fearless’ and ‘Love Story’ but ‘New Year’s Day’ does highlight Swift’s gorgeous tone and brilliant songwriting ability.
