Well, now that the news that Tim & Faith are one of the three C2C headliners next year we can get on with Country Music Week and look forward to Bob Harris revealing the full line up this Friday.
Our playlist this week is jam-packed full of new music and exciting artists. First up are Runaway June, an act we would be disappointed not to see on the pop-up stages at C2C next year. Their new, Dixie Chicks infused song, ‘Wild West’ is another great track from them to tide us over until the album is released.
Track 2 is ‘Out of Sight’, our favourite song from the new Midland album, ‘On the Rocks’. We were due to speak to them Thursday night, but it got postponed – we’ll let you know when the re-match happens!!
Track 3 is ‘Better on You’ from American Young, last seen in the UK in February supporting High Valley and due to visit these shores later this month for the BCMA Awards. Jon and Kristy are funny and charming people who excel in the live arena. We still have fond memories of watching them laughing so much they could barely sing at the Birmingham show with High Valley!!
Striking Matches have always been popular in the UK and they have released their new EP recently. ‘Ghost’ is the best song on the EP, a funky, very original song that is ambitious in its sound and scope.
‘Better Me’ is the emotional new song from Montgomery Gentry and the first new track released since Troy Gentry tragically died in a helicopter accident in September. A gorgeous, poignant song it should go on to be one of their biggest hits ever.
Two new acts, Jillian Jacqueline and The Texas Gentlemen are up next. Both acts are relatively new on the scene and are coming at the genre in their own particular ways that will have an appeal to those who search for music beyond the programmers of radio and mainstream constraints.
Jess and the Bandits had to postpone their UK tour last month so that Jess could go back to Texas to pitch in and help with her family’s re-building and clean up operation after Hurricaner Harvey recently swept through. ‘The Bullet’ is one of our favourite songs on their recent ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ album and is one of 7,345 songs on their that Jess sings the hell out of.
Big and Rich have recently released their new album, ‘Did it for the Party’. ‘Freedom Road’ is one of the new songs on their and it’s a different sound for them: Older, wiser and a bit more middle of the road but it suits them. The rowdy boys have transitioned into elder statesmen and ‘Freedom Road’ is a good example of that.
Final song on the playlist is from Jacob Davis. Coming at Country from a Sam Hunt-ish direction, ‘What I Wanna Be’ will please fans of modern Country who are used to the wider parameters of the genre these days.
